empowering our community, una familia a la vez.

Raíces Nuevas supports Garifuna youth by advocating for the tools and resources they need to navigate challenges, embrace their cultural identity, and build independent, fulfilling lives within a supportive community.

Who We Are

It is estimated that the global population of Garifuna people is around 600,000, with thousands living in New Orleans.

Migrants face a variety of challenges upon arriving in the U.S., including isolation, language barriers, and a lack of resources. Raíces Nuevas is dedicated to bridging these gaps by connecting migrants to essential resources, while also celebrating and preserving Garifuna culture.

What We Do

Resources
We provide Garifuna youth (ages 10-21) with the tools and resources they need to navigate challenges, embrace their cultural identity, and build independent, fulfilling lives within a supportive community.

Community
At Raíces Nuevas, Garifuna youth can find belonging, support, and inspiration to embrace their rich heritage. We ignite their potential through mentorship and celebrate their voices through cultural programs, guiding them towards their dreams.

Culture
We offer immersive classes to preserve Garifuna language, facilitate workshops that explore Garifuna traditions, and host community events to promote intra-cultural learning.
