Public Schools In New Orleans Expectations v. Reality
When I was asked to join the board of my alma mater, The Net Charter High School, I was both honored and excited. As a former student myself, I had firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities that the school offered. I was eager to give back and help ensure that future generations of students had the same chances I did.
Serving on the board has been a rewarding experience. I love being able to make a positive impact on the young people who attend the school. It's incredibly fulfilling to see students grow and succeed. However, it has also been challenging.
My expectations for education in New Orleans are high, but the reality is that many students face significant challenges. Some students have already been recommended to our school due to issues in their previous settings. I've even heard stories of sex occurring in classrooms. Despite these challenges, education remains the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality.
I believe that learning is the only way out of ignorance. By providing students with a quality education, we can help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life. As a board member, I am committed to working towards that goal.
